Season’s Greetings from our President Ellis L. Dillen

As 2015 draws to a close I wanted to take a moment and share some thoughts from the year. Normally this would be a time to thank you all for contributing to another successful year for Stürtz Machinery Inc, our employees and families, and I certainly do thank you for that. But our appreciation for your support is something as a company we strive to show you every day in all facets of our company, from sales through technical support. I believe this is proven in the success we have shared together!

For this message what I would really like to say is don’t neglect the simpler things in life and the true meaning of the season (at least to me) which is family and friends. A few days back I found myself in Germany with some colleagues at a Christmas Market in Cologne. For those of you that haven’t heard of this it is a tradition in many European towns to set up small stands in the center of the city to sell special hand crafted Christmas products. Not the normal things you will find at Macy’s, Dillard’s and dare I say it Walmart, but the traditional gifts like a scarf and hat, Christmas tree ornament, or hand painted nativity scene, the simple but heartfelt gifts. Other stands sell traditional foods….from chestnuts roasted on the open fire in front of your eyes, to numerous sweets of all kinds to fried fish planks with an incredibly potent garlic sauce and of course sausage, beer and gluhwein (a traditional heated spiced wine!!) The locals come from near and far weekday or weekend to see and be a part of the Christmas Market tradition. You see young dating couples at their first Christmas Market, new families with infants and young children (kinders they call them in Germany), teenagers hanging out together, middle aged and older folks (some in their 80’s and 90’s). The one thing they all have in common is their joy and appreciation to take time for the simpler things in life. Several of the colleagues I was with asked “have you nothing like this in the US” and sadly I had to say not really…unless you want to count going to the mall?

I had to think to myself why don’t we have this in the US? The answer is that we as a nation and a whole do not take enough time for ourselves and our families and for the simpler things in life. We just do not make enough time in our busy lifestyles to enjoy the simple things that we should!

So in closing, my Christmas and New Year’s message to you would be that you make it a priority in 2016 to take some time with the ones you love the most to Enjoy the Simpler Things in life!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you ALL!
